The
City of Greenwood is located in the heart of the County.
Incorporated in 1857, the City now boasts a thriving
population of over twenty-two thousand people (2000
census) and an estimated daytime population of forty
thousand. Greenwood is one of the larger cities in
the South Carolina Piedmont. The total area of the
City has been calculated as 14.708 square miles. The
climate is heavenly. The area provides residents with
wonderful weather, year 'round, but also provides
a mild change of seasons for those that can not live
without spring buds and rich fall colors. The type
of climate allows for lots of outside activities,
whether it be golf, gardening in the backyard or picnicking
by the lake.
